Kaya,
It is an honour and a privilege to be Principal while Jane Rowlands, our substantive principal, is on a three-year secondment with the Department of Education.
Floreat Park Primary School stands on Whadjuk Noongar Boodja (land) and we commit to caring for this beautiful country, just as the traditional custodians have done for tens of thousands of years. We acknowledge them and pay our respects to their elders, past and present.
I joined Floreat in 2017 as Deputy Principal and have worked closely with Jane, the staff and community to build the school we have today.
The strength of Floreat comes from our ‘governance triangle’ which consists of the School Board, P&C and the Leadership Team.
In partnership with the community, we have focused on developing safe and engaging learning environments, including new play spaces, flexible furniture in classrooms and access to technology that enriches learning. Our latest project is the resurfacing of our basketball courts.
The School Board provides governance with a rich depth of knowledge and skills, ensuring that we set ambitious yet achievable targets for our students while meeting legislative requirements.
Finally, the staff focus on a collaborative culture of continual improvement and contemporary, evidence-based teaching and learning, led by our growing number of middle-level instructional leaders.
I originally came to Australia as a Principal Consultant with the Department of Education. My role was to help school leaders and teachers improve literacy and numeracy outcomes, with a particular focus on leveraging the power of technologies.
Prior to that, in the UK, I spent fifteen years leading improvement in several inner-city schools.
Welcome, everyone, to Floreat Park Primary School.
